Create liturgical programs
The Create liturgical programs flow helps church musicians quickly build programs across a date range using the liturgical calendar.
Sage automatically creates programs for each Sunday in the selected range, along with common high feast days that fall within that period. You can create the programs on their own or ask Sage to suggest music for each date.
If you need a program for an additional service that is not created through the liturgical flow, use Create & Add Pieces to a Program instead.
Need a different way to build a program? See Creating programs for an overview of the available program creation methods.
Choose your date range
Enter the Start date and End date for the period you want to plan.
Sage will identify the Sundays and common high feast days within that range and create a program for each applicable date.
Choose whether Sage should suggest pieces
Use Generate pieces to decide whether Sage should recommend music for the generated programs.
If you leave suggestions turned off, Sage will still create the liturgical programs for the appropriate dates, but the programs will not be populated with recommended pieces.
If suggestions are enabled, Sage uses liturgical data including full lectionary readings synced from the Revised Common Lectionary to help identify pieces that fit each date.
Add your programming details
When generating suggestions, you can provide additional information to help Sage shape the results.
Ensemble Type
Choose the type of ensemble you are programming for.
Number of pieces
Enter the number of pieces you typically want Sage to suggest for each program.
Segments
Choose the service slots you want to program, or enter your own.
For example, you might create separate segments for an anthem, prelude, offertory, communion, or other recurring parts of the service.
Requested pieces
If you already know that you want to use certain pieces during the selected date range, add them under Requested pieces.
Sage will consider the liturgical context of each date and help place those pieces where they are most appropriate.
This can be especially helpful when you have music you know you want to use but have not yet decided which Sunday is the best fit.
AI prompt
Use the AI prompt field for any additional programming preferences or constraints.
For example, you might ask Sage to prioritize accessible repertoire, avoid recent repeats, include congregational music, or account for another programming preference that applies across the date range such as communion dates or denomination-specific considerations.
Generate your programs
When your settings are ready, select Generate suggestions.
Sage begins creating the dates and, when enabled, generating music suggestions for each program.
As each date becomes available, you can review it individually.
Review each generated program
The review screen shows all generated dates on the left and the selected program in the center.
For each date, you can:
Review the liturgical themes
Review Sage's suggested pieces
Add alternate suggestions
Search your library for another piece
Remove or change pieces
Regenerate suggestions
Approve the program
Make any edits you want before selecting Approve.
Approving a program confirms that date's programming. You do not need to approve every generated program during the same session.
Come back to unfinished programs later
You can leave the review flow at any time.
Any generated program that has not yet been approved will remain marked Needs Review. You can return to it later by opening the program for editing or selecting the Needs Review indicator from the Program page.
This makes it possible to generate an entire planning period at once while reviewing and finalizing individual Sundays whenever it fits your workflow.
