Add Pieces by Dictation

Add pieces by dictation

Dictation lets you add one or more pieces to your Sage Score library by speaking the details aloud. Sage transcribes what you say, separates each piece, and turns the information into editable library records for you to review before saving. Dictation mode is great when you're working directly from the stacks and don't want to go back and forth between each shelf and your computer or phone.

Need a different way to build your library? See Adding pieces to your library for an overview of all available import and entry methods.

Start dictating

From the Add to your library window, select Dictation from the mode selector at the top.

Select Start recording, then describe the piece using the details you know. You can include information such as:

  • Title

  • Composer

  • Arranger

  • Publisher

  • Voicing & Instrumentation

  • Number of copies

You do not need to follow a rigid script. Speak naturally and include the information that is useful and available to you.

For example, you might say:

For the Beauty of the Earth, arranged by Philip Kevin, SATB, 20 copies.

Add another piece

When you finish describing one piece and want to continue with another, say “Next piece.”

Sage will begin parsing the piece you just dictated while you continue with the next one.

Repeat this process for as many pieces as you want to add.

Finish your dictation

When you have finished entering pieces, say “Done.”

Sage will begin parsing the final piece and complete the transcription session.

Review the parsed pieces

As Sage finishes parsing each piece, it appears as its own editable row.

Review the information Sage identified and make any corrections before saving. Depending on what you dictated, Sage may populate fields such as title, composer, arranger, publisher, and voicing & instrumentation.

Composer, arranger, and voicing & instrumentation can contain multiple values where appropriate.

Sage may also suggest existing or common values as you edit fields, helping keep your library data consistent.

Add the pieces to your library

Once parsing is complete and you have reviewed the pieces, select Add to library.

All completed rows will be added to your Sage Score library.

If Sage does not interpret something exactly as intended, you can edit the parsed fields before saving rather than starting the dictation again.
