Anthologies are collections of multiple musical works published together in a single volume. Whether you're cataloging a method book, a collection of solos, or an extensive anthology of repertoire, Sage Score makes it easy to organize the volume and its individual pieces.
When adding an anthology, you'll first create a record for the book itself. Then, you can choose to add its individual contents so that each piece can be found and used throughout your Sage library.
Step 1: Add the Anthology Details
Navigate to Add to Your Library and select Anthology from the available entry methods.
Start by entering the basic information about your anthology. The title is required, but adding additional details can make your library more useful and help Sage identify the anthology's contents later.
Helpful details include:
Anthology title: The name of the collection.
Composer, arranger, or editor: The individuals responsible for the collection or its contents.
Publisher and ISBN: Publication information that can help identify the exact edition of your anthology.
Volume: Particularly useful for collections published as a series.
Voicing & Instrumentation: The musical forces represented in the collection.
You can also add tags, genre, difficulty, learning objectives, and other relevant information to make your anthology easier to find.
Once you've entered the details, select Next to continue to the contents.
Tip: If you plan to use Sage's search feature to identify anthology contents, include as much publication information as possible. An ISBN is particularly helpful for distinguishing between editions.
Step 2: Add the Anthology Contents
After creating your anthology record, Sage gives you several ways to add the individual pieces contained in the collection.
Logging individual pieces allows you to find those works when searching your library, rather than needing to remember which anthology contains them.
Recommended: Upload a Table of Contents
The fastest and most reliable way to add anthology contents is to provide Sage with a digital copy of the book's table of contents.
Locate the table of contents in your anthology.
Upload a PDF or image using the file upload area. You can drag and drop your file or select Choose file.
Sage will analyze the document and identify the individual works listed.
Review the proposed entries to ensure the contents have been identified correctly.
Confirm the entries to add them to your anthology.
Sage uses optical character recognition (OCR) to read the uploaded document and turn the listed works into individual library entries.
Supported file formats include PDF, JPG, PNG, and WebP, with a maximum file size of 30 MB per file.
Tip: You don't need a digital copy of the entire anthology. A clear photo or scan of its table of contents is sufficient. If the contents span multiple pages, include all relevant pages so Sage can identify the complete collection.
Alternative: Ask Sage to Search for Contents
If you don't have a table of contents available, Sage can attempt to locate the contents of your anthology using its publication details.
Select Search for Contents to have Sage look for information about the collection.
Search results are more likely to be useful when the anthology record includes identifying details such as its title, publisher, editor, volume, and especially its ISBN.
Because different editions can contain different selections, be sure to review any suggested contents before adding them to your library.
Tip: Searching works best for identifiable, published collections. If Sage can't locate reliable information about your anthology, uploading its table of contents or entering pieces manually may be more effective.
Alternative: Add Contents Manually
You can also select Add contents manually to enter individual pieces yourself.
This option is useful when:
You only need to catalog a few selections from a larger collection.
Your anthology doesn't have a clear or readable table of contents.
You want more control over which pieces are included in your library.
Manual entry is also a helpful fallback when a piece isn't identified through scanning or searching.
Or Skip Adding Contents
You don't have to catalog every piece in an anthology!
If you simply want to keep track of a book in your collection, you can save the anthology without adding any individual contents.
This can be especially useful for reference books, large collections you rarely search by individual title, or volumes you intend to catalog more thoroughly later.
Your anthology record can still serve as a useful part of your library even without individual piece entries.
Step 3: Save Your Anthology
Once you've finished reviewing or adding contents, select Save to complete the process.
Your anthology and any individual pieces you've added will become part of your Sage library.
When individual works are cataloged as anthology contents, they remain associated with their parent anthology, allowing you to identify the collection in which each work appears.
This means you can discover an individual piece while browsing or planning repertoire and still know exactly where to find it.
