Student Pages bring together the information you need to manage lessons, assign repertoire, and track each student's musical progress.
Whether you're working with a beginning student or an advanced musician, Sage Score provides a central place to maintain assignments, document lessons, and share helpful information between sessions.
Over time, these records create a valuable history of each student's musical development, helping you plan lessons with greater context and continuity.
Accessing a Student Page
There are two ways to access a student's page in Sage Score.
Option 1: Search for a Student
For quick access, select the search icon in the main navigation and search for the student's name.
Select the student from the search results to open their Student Page directly.
This is especially convenient when you manage multiple studios or need to quickly reference a student's records without navigating through studio rosters.
Option 2: Navigate Through Studios
Select Studios from the main navigation.
Expand the studio containing the student you'd like to view.
Select the student's name from the roster.
Student Pages are created automatically when a participant is added to a studio for the first time.
If a student belongs to multiple studios, you can use the Studio view dropdown in the upper-right corner of their page to switch between studio contexts.
Each Student Page includes two primary areas:
Assignments: Repertoire assigned to the student, along with due dates and assignment status.
Lesson Logs: A history of lessons, including private teaching notes and practice notes intended for students.
Managing Student Assignments
Assignments connect your music library directly to your teaching activities.
You can assign pieces to students, track their progress, and manage due dates without maintaining separate repertoire lists.
Adding Assignments from a Student Page
To create an assignment:
Open the student's page and select + Assign in the Assignments section.
Use Search & Suggestions to find repertoire from your Sage library.
Add the desired pieces to the New Assignments area.
Set due dates if needed.
Select Save Assignments to confirm your selections.
Due dates are optional, so you can assign music without establishing a specific completion deadline.
The assignment window also displays the student's current assignments, making it easier to see what they're already working on before selecting additional repertoire.
Getting Repertoire Suggestions from Sage
If you're looking for something new for a student to study, you can use Ask Sage within the assignment workflow.
Enter a description of the repertoire you're looking for, including any relevant learning goals, instrumentation, style, or difficulty considerations.
For example:
"Lyrical contemporary solos for a confident middle school soprano with piano accompaniment."
Select Generate Suggestions to have Sage recommend matching repertoire from your library.
You can then review the suggestions and select the pieces you'd like to assign.
Tip: The more specific your prompt, the more effectively Sage can narrow its recommendations. Consider including the student's experience level, technical goals, and preferred musical styles.
Assigning Pieces Directly from Your Library
You don't have to start from a Student Page to create an assignment.
If you're already browsing your music library and find a piece you'd like a student to work on, you can assign it directly from that piece's record.
Open the piece in your library and select the Assign option.
From there, choose the student or students who should receive the assignment and add an optional due date.
This is particularly useful when you're reviewing repertoire and want to make assignments without navigating away from the music.
Editing or Removing Assignments
To manage an existing assignment:
Navigate to the student's page.
Select the assignment from the Assignments section.
Update its details or delete the assignment as needed.
Assignments are displayed with their current status and due date, when one has been provided.
You can also use the assignment list to quickly review the repertoire a student is currently studying.
Creating Lesson Logs
Lesson logs help you document the work completed during lessons, preserve important teaching observations, and communicate practice expectations to students.
To add a lesson log:
Open the student's page.
Select + Add in the Lesson Logs section.
Enter the lesson date and, optionally, its start and end times.
Associate any relevant assignments with the lesson.
Add your private teaching notes and/or student practice notes.
Select Save to add the lesson to the student's history.
Lesson logs provide two separate note fields, each serving a different purpose.
Private Notes
Private notes are intended for internal teaching and record-keeping purposes.
These notes are visible on the internal version of the Student Page but are not displayed in the student's Student Hub.
Private notes are useful for recording information such as:
Observations about technical development or recurring challenges.
Teaching strategies to revisit in future lessons.
Progress toward longer-term learning objectives.
Context that may be helpful when planning subsequent lessons.
For collaborative studios, maintaining thoughtful private notes can also help other authorized teachers understand a student's progress and learning history.
Student Practice Notes
Student practice notes are designed to be shared with the student through their Student Hub.
Use this area to record actionable guidance that the student can reference between lessons.
For example:
Practice measures 12–24 slowly with a metronome, gradually increasing the tempo.
Focus on consistent breath support throughout the longer phrases.
Review the assigned scales before beginning repertoire practice.
Listen to the recommended recording and identify changes in articulation.
Important: Student practice notes are visible to students who have access to their Student Hub. If you need to record information that should remain internal, use the Private notes field instead.
Connecting Lesson Logs to Assignments
When creating a lesson log, you can select one or more Related assignments.
This helps connect your lesson documentation with the specific repertoire a student is studying.
For example, if a lesson focuses on two assigned pieces, you can associate both with that lesson log while documenting the work completed and next steps.
Over time, these connections provide useful context for understanding how a student has progressed through their repertoire.
Notifying Students About Updates
When adding or updating assignments or lesson logs, you'll see a Notify student checkbox.
Select this option to send an email notification to the address associated with the student's record, if an email address is available.
The notification lets the student know that their assignment or lesson log history has been updated.
This is especially useful when:
Assigning new repertoire between lessons.
Adding practice instructions following a lesson.
Updating existing assignments.
Sharing new lesson information that the student should review.
If you don't select Notify student, you can still save the changes without sending an email.
Tip: Notifications are optional. You can document lessons and manage assignments without emailing students after every update.
Student Pages vs. Student Hubs
Although they're closely connected, Student Pages and Student Hubs serve different purposes.
Student Page (Internal View)
The internal Student Page is designed for teachers and authorized organization administrators.
It provides access to assignments, lesson history, private teaching notes, and student practice notes.
Student Hub (Student View)
The Student Hub is the student-facing experience.
Students who have been invited to create a Sage Score login can use their hub to access their assigned repertoire and the lesson information shared with them.
Private teaching notes remain internal and are not displayed in the Student Hub.
Students who haven't been invited to create a login can still have assignments and lesson logs maintained internally, but they won't be able to access that information independently through Sage.
For more information about inviting students, see Creating & Managing Studios.
